Miami Heat select Kel’el Ware with 15th pick in 2024 NBA draft
The Miami Heat selected Indiana sophomore center Kel’el Ware with the 15th pick in the 2024 NBA draft this evening at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Ware, a native of North Little Rock, Arkansas, is IU’s third NBA draft pick under Mike Woodson.
Last June, Indiana had Jalen Hood-Schifino (17th pick) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (57th pick) selected in the 2023 NBA draft.
According to the 2024-25 NBA rookie salary scale published by RealGM.com, Ware is projected to earn $3.53 million next season.
An All-Big Ten second-team selection last season, Ware averaged 15.9 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 1.5 assists in 32.1 minutes per game for the Hoosiers.
He shot 58.6 percent from the field, 42.5 percent on 3s and 63.4 percent from the free throw line.
Ware transferred to Indiana in the spring of 2023 after playing his freshman season at the University of Oregon. In 35 games for the Ducks, Ware averaged 6.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in 15.8 minutes per game.
He is Indiana’s 28th first-round NBA draft pick.
