Former IU guard Romeo Langford to play for Philadelphia in NBA summer league

Former IU guard Romeo Langford, the No. 14 pick in the 2019 NBA draft, will play for Philadelphia in this year’s NBA summer league.

Langford, who played one season at Indiana, played last season in the NBA G-League for the Salt Lake City Stars, an affiliate of the Utah Jazz.

The 6-foot-5 guard averaged 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists last season for the Stars.

Langford last appeared in an NBA game in 2022-23, when he played for the San Antonio Spurs. Over 141 career NBA games, the former New Albany Star has averaged 4.6 points, 2.1 rebounds, and .7 assists in 16.1 minutes.

He began his professional career with the Boston Celtics and was traded to San Antonio during the 2021-22 season in a deal that sent Derrick White to Boston.

Langford averaged 16.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 32 games at Indiana and was named second-team All-Big Ten. A McDonald’s All-American and Mr. Basketball in Indiana in 2018, Langford scored 3,002 points at New Albany, the fifth most ever for a high school player in Indiana.

According to Spotrac, Langford has earned over $16 million in his NBA career. Still just 24 years old, Langford is trying to play his way back into the NBA.

Langford is not eligible for a two-way deal because of his age and service time in the NBA.

Philadelphia will play in both the Salt Lake City Summer League, which begins on July 8 and the Vegas Summer League, which starts on July 12.
